Role Responsibility

As the Transport Manager for our Wigan Hub (and 5 outbases) and reporting to the site General Manager), you will have overall responsibility for our Transport and Service Delivery function at Wigan, ensuring our customers receive the best quality service always. 

On a day to day basis, this role is about leading on-site resources (colleagues, vehicles, and equipment) to ensure we have everything required in the right place at the right time to not only meet, but also flex, to our customers changing needs.

This is achieved through building and motivating a team of Transport Shift Managers and skilled service delivery crews alongside managing fleet utilisation and cost control whilst always ensuring the operation is both effective and compliant.

As you will know, legal compliance and safety is key to running a great operation and we want to ensure we operate a safe operation that protects our colleagues and our customers.  You will be the site lead/expert in this area and so knowledge of Road Transport Regulations, Health & Safety, fleet compliance and working time is a given and your ability to manage, brief and coach others in these areas is essential.

The business is going through positive change as we drive towards ‘One Best Way’ so this role will suit an experienced Senior Transport Manager who embraces change and has an appetite for continuous improvement.

You will use your experience to identify opportunities for improved efficiencies within the Transport function, recommending and implementing changes where needed and sharing best practice across our network of hubs.

You will develop the team in all areas including resourcing, development and management of the colleagues in your team, ensuring the service delivery crews are fully trained in all areas, in particular driver CPC, service delivery standards and product installation.

The Ideal Candidate

This is a role which will suit somebody who has extensive experience delivering within transport management operations. 

Key skills

• At least 3 years’ operating as a Transport Manager within a medium/large-scale transport operation
• Demonstrable experience improving transport operations and introducing operational excellence
• Lead, using available performance data (driving standards, infringements, trustpilot scores) to coach and develop team members
• Develop, understand and interpret financial data to manage and improve resource costs
• Deliver against company and customer KPI’s
• Demonstrable commercial and financial acumen
• Strong people skills – able to influence, coach and develop
• Possess a good knowledge of Road Transport Regulations, hold a national CPC and ensure that ‘O’ Licence requirements are adhered to
• Full UK driving licence

Package Description

•       Basic salary of £40,000
