Business Development Manager
Job Introduction
Role Purpose
As part of the Sales and Commercial team, you will be an experienced sales professional with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
You will be comfortable creating new business leads, organising your activity autonomously, and taking a consultative approach to marketing ArrowXL's services.
Researching through market intelligence and from targeted campaigns, you will prospect a range of industries and vertical markets through email, social media and telephone calls to gain client interest in our service.
You will work to achieve a target that supports the new revenue goals of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Role Specific:
The Business Development function has four main responsibilities within ArrowXL:
- Sell the full range of Arrow XL products and services.
- Generate appropriate levels of sales margin at client and service levels.
- Achieve revenue and performance targets.
- Maintain accurate and timely records as requested by ArrowXL.
To achieve the above objectives, you will have several key areas of responsibility:
Identify and maintain a ‘prospect pipeline’ sufficient to achieve your new business target:
- Maintain a mix of short, medium and long-term opportunities to ensure a constant injection of new trading revenue.
- Productivity targets, as agreed with the line manager, should be achieved.
- Work closely with operations to target clients who will develop long-term relationships.
Guarantee that clients trade to agreed profiles and within the operational processes of ArrowXL:
- Ensure that all new accounts are presented to the business using defined new business processes.
- Once established, hand over the account to the identified Account Manager to maintain the client relationship.
Achieve the individual revenue and sales margin targets:
- Targets are set in line with business objectives and are subject to change.
- You will be expected to react and respond accordingly to maintain a constant stream of new business.
To ensure adherence to the above key personal objectives, the business development team will have a number of performance measures:
- Number of new consignments and revenue value per month.
- Accurate and timely updates of prospect pipeline information.
- Accuracy and performance against CSFs
General:
- Communicates clearly so that all team members are aware of their objectives and the standards required, ensuring that these are aligned to both functional and broader business objectives.
- Defines day to day activities, being clear about priorities to ensure that deadlines are met.
- Accountable for ensuring the quality of the work at ‘Professional’ level.
- Role model positive behaviour, which is in keeping with our values.
- Engage and build open and honest professional and positive relationships with team members, fellow colleagues, peers and cross functional stakeholders.
- Is independent in exercising knowledge without close supervision.

- Act upon any feedback from the business development and marketing team.
- Be responsible for and undertake continual learning and development both informally and formally, ensuring a clear understanding of the business its competitors and market place and cross functional priorities.
Person Specification
Experience:
- Sales / Business development background is essential, preferably from a consumer logistics environment.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to work under their own initiative, navigate the corporate landscape, quickly establish credibility and build effective, collaborative, working relationships at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to act in a professional manner to the benefit of the company and always maintain confidentiality.
